Stallone has a Death Wish

Sylvester Stallone is taking aim at an MGM remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson starrer Death Wish.

Stallone is in talks to direct and star as an ordinary man who goes vigilante after his wife and daughter are attacked. Set to write the script are Michael Ferris and John Brancato, whose credits include Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

“We are looking at our library to determine which potential franchise properties make the most sense for us to produce, and Death Wish was clearly one of that jumped out,” said MGM chief operating officer Rick Sands. “We hope to get a deal done with Sylvester Stallone to direct and star, and like the Rocky and Rambo films, we see this as another potential franchise for him.”

Death Wish is a movie that should be left alone. No one I mean no one can do Paul Kersey like the late great Bronson, in the same way no one can do Rocky like Stallone, Scarface like Pacino, Norman Bates like the late great Tony Perkins or Hack Torrence like Nicholson. Death Wish is a classic and its Bronson all the way. If people want to see a modern day Death Wish tale that was effective check out Kevin Bacon in Death Sentence. The film came out in the summer of 2007. It was actually written by Brian Garfield who wrote the original book Death Wish which the original Death Wish was based on. They need to stop remaking and ruining these classic films. Look at the other sad imitations: Halloween, Psycho, Rear Window to name a few. None came close to the classic originals.
