Creed project gathers interest

By Webmaster on July 25, 2013 / 1 min read

Rumors of a Rocky spin-off project hit the web recently.

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, the director and star respectively of the acclaimed drama Fruitvale Station, are beginning work on the project entitled Creed.

Focusing on the grandson of Apollo Creed and his desire to become a champion boxer, the project would also feature the return of Stallone as Rocky Balboa, who is sought out by the young fighter to help train him. The official synopsis is as follows:

“Raised in an upper-crust home thanks to the ring riches earned by his grandfather, the young man doesn’t have to box and his family doesn’t want him to. Yet he has the natural instinct and gifts and potential that made his grandfather the heavyweight champion until Rocky Balboa took his crown. Creed’s grandson needs a mentor and turns to Balboa, who is out of boxing completely and not eager to return.”

Would you like to see Rocky return to the big screen in Creed? Let us know your thought in the comments below.

  • JoeJuly 28, 2014

Yes, I would absolutely love to see this film made. It is an interesting way to continue the franchise in a believable way. After the last movie I found myself wanting to know more about Rocky's life after boxing. I really hope this film is made!!

I've been a composer since I was in 6th Grade. I believe that this will succeed. But It needs to have a fantastic score! I agree it needs The Final Countdown, and it also needs some sort of modern mix of Take You Back and Eye of the Tiger. And if Bill Conti's not gonna go the extra mile and do the score himself, them give me a call. I'm very experienced in composing and score writing. I really know I can go the distance and the Extra Mile if I only had the chance. Sly, you need to make a great movie! But we all know you won't disappoint. I think I can really help with this. I'm highly experienced in writing music, story writing, management, and advertising (not so much). Ok. Yes. I know I'm advertising in a comments section on Sly's site, and this will probably never get read. But if it does, my UN on SoundCloud is OS_Epsilon_Business. Specifically, look at the Sheet Music section PL of my music. Thank you, and Sly, MAKE THIS MOVIE HAPPEN!

I think Rocky should own the Gym were Creed trains. Remember,Rocky's son quit his job in RB.He needs work. Also Mickey needs to play into this (Rocky's role). No gloves for Rocky, unless its a Street Fight in the Bad-Lands of N Philly were his Gym is at. Maybe Creed should be a Gang Member and rocky is his only way out. Blood-in Blood-out are the gang rules. Can Rocky save his Dead Friends Son and make a Unstoppable Prize Fighter out of a Punk Gang Member. Just my ideas.

Lets face it, these movies are for the fans, Sly included, why not make it appeal to everything feasible the fans desire? As a devoted fan, this is my list of major elements that must be present in "Creed", and/or any of its sequels, to satisfy my Rocky cravings: 1) It must have "CREED" scroll across the screen with the intro to "Gonna Fly Now" playing (in three years time "CREED II" ect.), followed by the recapping of the Apollo/Drago fight (making this a true spinoff, or sequel to that fight, as apposed to Rocky VII). 2) Most fans agree that Ivan Drago was Rocky's toughest foe. Include Dolph Lundgren, I don't know or care how, but do it; and not only as a flashback. Does it even need to be mentioned that he killed Apollo? Yeah, he needs to be in it. 3) "The Final Countdown" training montage; enough said. 4) I will not be content unless Rocky puts on the gloves. Even as a sparing partner for Creed. Better yet, put Rocky in the ring for charity; "Rocky Balboa vs Thunderlips II" anyone? 5) American Flag Boxing Shorts

We can never have too much Rocky!!

  • John TeachDecember 28, 2013

The ideal of Creed I think is awesome! We get to see more of Rocky and hopefully some of the other cast members as well as continuing the great saga that begun so long ago. People love Rocky and even if he is just in a role as a trainer people will want to see him again. One of the greatest roles in Hollywood I think is that of Rocky Balboa not only because of his fighting skills but who he is what he represents! Please do this movie I'm positive it would be a huge success!

    bring it on cant wait

  • Bill BilakosSeptember 29, 2013

Do it! The Rocky character has inspired my and many other people to fight in real life.

  • ToddSeptember 28, 2013

Oh great. Let me guess, the younger Creed will also have a white girlfriend/wife so we can have more racial mixing such as in Rocky Balboa. I guess that was the only way to make up for the fact that white champions made up so many of the first five Rocky movies.

  • Jessica LewisSeptember 25, 2013

What a fabulous idea! I really cannot wait to see this. Rocky is such an inspirational legacy.

  • Patrick.FSeptember 19, 2013

Dear Sirs, How can we have flashbacks from Rocky IV, especially, when we all know that Carl Weathers was not interested in appearing in Rocky Balboa, at least, because of money, and if there is no connection, with his image and personnality, it could be very dangerous to do it. But, anyway, I can't wait to see this but it must have music and a powerful one, why don't bring back Vince DiCola, a very well and good mood, introspectives on Apollo's Character (proud of himself, a little bit arrogant as Ali, defending his country and boxing, and a fatal bout, that means "no one is invincible"?!). Apollo was my favorite character after Rocky, himself, of course, and we have to find again, this "Eye of the Tiger", because without Apollo, there was no Rocky, and Sly should use, video footages of Rocky III (never seen before), to train the Grandson of the "Master of Disaster". "On your toes, on your toes, on your toes". Cordially. Mr Patrick.F Chelles (77 District of Paris)

i have an idea why don't creed fight a kickboxer a girl boxer a ultimate fighter and an alien and rocky in the movie creed along with regular figters

  • PauleSeptember 7, 2013

The first time I saw Sly was when I saw Rocky at the age of 7. From then on I worked out to the soundtracks and was driven to have his heart of a lion. I even became a boxer for a few years to work my way through college and used Rocky to keep me motivated. I would love to see another Rocky movie or more, because they are soulfull and my 4 boys can learn that life will knock them down but its whether you get up and move forward that determines what kind of man you are. "Go for it!"

  • RolfSeptember 5, 2013

    Do It! Regards from Germany

  • AllanSeptember 3, 2013

I have been working on a script for a spin off myself and was kinda broken hearted when i heard about this. But i think my idea is better, i call it: EYE OF THE TIGER The son of Apollo creed avenges his fathers death by defeating the son of Ivan Drago to become the new heavy weight champion of the world, and restores his family's name to greatness. One is destined to follow in is father's footsteps, the other is determined to step out of his father's shadow. They both have something to prove, but only one can be the best. Tony "the tiger" creed On the night of his first pro fight, Tony takes his sister out to celebrate his victory. Highly intoxicated, he speeds through traffic with Angela in the passenger seat, begging him to slow down, he doesn't. Swerving to avoid hitting a pedestrian, the car spins out of control, smashing the passenger side into a building, instantly killing Angela Creed........Now, Tony is serving a 15 year sentence for vehicular manslaughter. Tortured by the memory of his father, consumed with guilt for the death of his sister, and haunted by his demons, Tony turns to underground prison boxing, and lets his opponents feel the wrath of the pain he endures. Over a ten year span, with the help of his mentor and trainer, rev. James "clubber" Lang, he becomes the undefeated undisputed prison champ. Rev. Lang, former heavy weight champ, found religion after losing his title in a rematch against Rocky balboa. He starts a prison ministry where he meets Tony Creed. After ten years he becomes the first fighter to win 100 fights and the Rev. makes him an offer that will change his life forever.....an opportunity to become the heavy weight champion of the world and avenge his fathers death by beating the son of the man who killed his father...... Sergei Drago, the current heavy weight champion of the world.

Mr. Stallone, First of all I would like to say that no other movie has not so affecting me as much as Rocky. So I am a big fan and i want definitely Rocky come back for a last time in the big screen!!!What I want from this movie is the old Rocky come back. I mean that Rocky was a strong man, with faith in God, a great fighter for which he did had a purpose...right? Τhis film will be the grand finale. Rocky will train Creed’s grandson and with that way you Mr. Stallone you will show that Rocky still remember Apollo and he will never forget him. Also with that way he will be forced to remember all the things he experienced so far, with Adrian, with Paulie, with Apollo, with Mickey and now is the time to realize the facts and live full of love, faith, strength and hope!!! I don't want to see Rocky with pain and sadness. I want to see him giving his last fight during Apollo grandson's training. (And somehow you maybe be able to include Drago and Tommy)! ''No voice will never stop cheering your name Rocky''...

  • zachSeptember 1, 2013

Sorry to post twice, but I must say that I was very excited to hear of this possibility. If at all possible I think that it would be great to see old materials from the cutting room floor from the first four Rocky movies cleverly edited into the screenplay. This in my opinion would remind the skeptics of the very reason for the love of this character worldwide and why we loved him in the first place. You are the artist and its your canvass so I won't pretend to know your area of expertise. This is just your second biggest fans opinion. Your first biggest fan being you of course, and I mean that in the most endearing fashion. The housing market is down. The economy is for crap. People need the inspiration that only Rocky can give them. I for one am in need of his guidance. Thank you Sly!!!!!

  • zachSeptember 1, 2013

I actually watch the training montage in Rocky 4 every time I work my abs, arms, and chest. Nothing gets me more pumped. At 34 years old I have been doing this since I was 10 years old. That's 24 years of working out with Rocky. First on betamax, then vhs, and now dvd. Times change, but Rocky never does. Personally I would look forward to seeing another training sequence written choreographed and executed by a true professional and would welcome as many returns of rockys character as possible. I miss my workout partner of nearly a quarter century. I'm with you 200%!!!

  • DanielAugust 30, 2013

As a Rocky fan, the title Creed makes me think of one possible story only: the story of the young Apollo Creed fighting his way to the top and becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. The movie Rocky is at this time a classic and its characters are iconic. This is why we are less willing of being introduced to new characters, while infinitely more interested to explore the characters that fascinated us and became part of our lives a long time ago. It will be acceptable for Rocky to take a little time off in this one. The involvement of Stallone as a writer and director will compensate, as the movie was never about only one character, but about an entire fictional world that Stallone created (inspired from the real world, but still an exceptional place to escape and configure your own dreams). Personally, I would be very happy with a few insinuations of Rocky and Mickey's presence in the world of Creed. With the main action developing around Creed, we could notice a story in the paper about a young boxer that has magical will (heart) in the ring, but no real boxing skills and no real ambition to overcome his condition (maybe because there is no-one to bother telling him that he's great heart makes him so special that he could overcome everything) Let's face it, Rocky never had great ambitions before fighting Creed, and never had great boxing skills before training with Creed, it would be the greatest mistake to reinvent the characters. This happened in Rocky 5, when that flash-back scene inspired from the relationship between Cus d'Amato and Mike Tyson was introduced to redefine the relationship between Mickey and Rocky (when, from Rocky 1, it was obvious that they were not close at all, as Rocky did not focus on his boxing career and Mickey did not have the nobility to try to inspire him). Instead, I would like to see a very poor Apollo Creed, raised by his grandfather in a tough world. The movie should focus on the relationship between Apollo Creed and his grandfather (played mandatory by Carl Weathers) who inspires him and teaches him to be noble, to always count on his mind to make the difference, but also to use boxing as a way of overcoming his social condition (in a time where the Afro-american community had much to prove). Played by Carl Weathers that we all came to love, Apollo's grandfather should be at least as important in the movie as Apollo, as he would be the source of all inspiration and we should be able to recognize him more as the essence of the Apollo Creed we know. We could see in such a movie some action from the time of the grandfather's youth (early 1900's), with an extremely talented and inspired young Afro-american boxer struggling in vain to get a shot at the title after the unwanted reign of the first Afro-american heavyweight champion Jack Johnson and before the acceptance of Joe Louis. The main action should take place in the begginig of the 1960's, in the time of the young Casius Clay. It would be geart to recreate the context of the 1960's, but without suggesting in the movie the presence of Ali, Frazier or Foreman. Whatever you do, please don't kill anyone anymore just to sustain the drama. I'm sure you are smart enough to find 100 different ways to make the story good. You already killed most of the characters that you managed to make us fall in love with. Keep in mind that if we wanted to feel pessimistic, we could always just watch the news on TV. Keep the Rocky world a place were things begin (not were things end). You always claim that Rocky is an optimist. Prove that he is right to be so.

  • CharlesAugust 29, 2013

BTW, congrats on your conversion. Looking so forward to seeing you in eternity one day. Welcome to the fold brother.

Im torn. I thought that the last movie was the perfect ending and it couldn't possibly get better, but there is no such thing as too much Rocky. I would love to see more Rocky and the idea of the movie sounds good. Also I am not sure if rocky could ever end as long as Sly is acting. Whether the movie is made or not ill be happy.

  • AndréAugust 14, 2013

I want to see it !

  • PierluigiAugust 13, 2013

Simply......do it! I don't mind that we're talking about fiction. What we care it's a story that help us to still stand even if we fell down on the ground several times....as all Rocky movies teach! What does it means if many many people, recently, watched all the Rocky movies on an italian tv channel for the 100th times? If i'm (we're) never fed up to watch them it means that they have a strong power...and they let us feel stronger. So....always grateful to mr. Stallone. A tiny tribute of my rock band "Black Jesper" for Rocky's caracter it's our song "Waiting",inspired from Rocky and Adriana love story. Go on mr. Stallone, and thank for all. Pierluigi from Roma, Italy

  • GeorgiosAugust 11, 2013

Dear Sly, A great idea, that Rocky supports the grandson of his former opponent and later friend. Shows how big Rocky's heart is and an inspiration for us all. Creed was a great character too. Would like to see more of him. Rocky is one of the most lovable characters in Filmhistory. Try to give us more of him, even in a second role. Another aspect is, that Rocky always is the underdog in the fights. Who will fill up this part? Only Rocky is perfect for this. In love George.

  • John BartruffAugust 10, 2013

The Rocky Films were clearly the best work Mr. Stallone has ever done. It expressed the true measure of a man for its time and proved a role model for the young. With the new project of "Creed", it is possible that this will revive the tone Stallone expressed with Rocky. Mr. Stallone has my full support of this and all projects as he is a staple in the film community. I wish him and this project best wishes. Thank you so much!

  • Austin TuckerAugust 10, 2013

"CREED," TREMENDOUS IDEA. ROCKY AND RAMBO ARE IN THE LEXICON OF AMERICON CULTURE, ANY FURTHER CHAPTERS OF THEIR LIVES ARE UNIVERALY APPLAUDED. SLY MUST CONVINCE CLINT WALKER TO CAMEO AS RAMBO'S DAD. CLINT WAS THE ROLE MODEL FOR A GTENERATION OF FANS. TO SEE THESE TWO ROLE MODELS TOGETHER ON SCREEN AS FATHER AND SON WOULD BE DYNAMITE.

  • ManiekAugust 8, 2013

great idea ! I had this same idea ! we waiting for this projject !

  • Vernon BellAugust 8, 2013

Yes!! It is a great idea. I think it would be successful. I would certainly go see it.

A FANTASTIC IDEA MR. SLY STALLONE!!! I LOVE THE ROCKYMOVIES ,INCLUDING "ROCKY V" SO I SAY: GO FOR IT!!!! AND THEN PLEASE DO "RAMBO 5". "GODSPEED" LOVE YA MAN BLESSINGS & RESPECT FROM YOUR SWEDISH FANS

  • LeeAugust 7, 2013

Been a fan of Sly's since Rocky was released just re-watched the Rocky anthology and after Rocky Balboa was finished I grew sad. Both the Rocky and Rambo characters have always been my favorite, and these are also charectors I never seem to get sick of as I could watch their continuing sagas for ever so it seems (Hope Sly feels the same way?) So yeas after watching and finishing Balboa I grew sad that was until reading the write up for a possible spin off in the form of Creed...only hope Carl Weathers is signed on as well! Look forward to it...hey Sly stick with this it will be a winner...remember...never give up!

  • chris phillipsAugust 7, 2013

This sounds great..but it needs to be written correctly.it has the potential To be a great story.Apollo's wife and children should be in this movie.flashs backs of apollo and rocky should be introduced.cant wait for this..

  • Geraldo TavaresAugust 7, 2013

Sly Stallone has always been an inspiration to me, the rocky series has always been amazinly good. i love them all. I am for it. I hope sly accept this and performs in creed. From Brazil thank you sly.

  • MeatAugust 7, 2013

I believe if this something your led to do then do it I believe it's another dimension to Rocky. I for one am very excited at this perspective to coin a phrase "Go For It"!

  • EricAugust 7, 2013

Je pense qu'il serait préférable de voir Rambo 5 si sly est capable d avoir le même physique que dans bullet to the head. Un autre Rocky sans sly en premier role me parait moins intéressant.

  • Gaurav AgichaAugust 7, 2013

Stallone should keep making rocky and rambo movie, coz he is still fit and can carry these movies easily Rocky:-the idea of creed seems fine it continues the rocky series but stallone should be in a full time role and the movie should revolve around him. Rambo:-Rambo 5 should surly be his next project and this time we want to see him shirtless with his abs and ripped body. I hope stallone does read these blogs by fans

  • Joseph RAugust 6, 2013

More Rocky is a good thing. But we don't want to see him in a supporting role. Also, the story of Creed's grandson doesn't intrigue me at all. I think Stallone would be better suited for a serious role. Perhaps a coming of age drama.

  • Neiron MedinaAugust 6, 2013

soy fan de Rocky, lo he sido desde siempre, seria fabuloso de verdad poder ver una peli con esta tematica, pagaria mi boleto al cine de verdad encantado. Desde Caracas-Venezuela.
